This guide covers both, plus how racing odds, racecards, and bet types work. For the betting sites, we used real accounts: we counted the races on offer, read every welcome bonus to see whether racing bets count, checked who streams races, and timed our own withdrawals in October 2026.

Is Horse Racing Betting Legal in Malaysia?
Malaysians can bet on horse racing legally through the turf clubs' tote, while betting with offshore sites online sits in a legal gray area.
Yes, through the official route. Horse race betting runs under the Racing (Totalizator Board) Act 1961, which created the Totalisator Board, a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance. The Board appoints the turf clubs as its tote agents, so a bet at a turf club counter, an off-course betting center, or through a turf club telephone account is fully legal. Legal betting is generally open only to non-Muslim adults aged 21 and over.
Betting online with offshore sportsbooks is different. Malaysia's main gambling laws, the Betting Act 1953 and the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, were written long before the internet, so using an offshore betting site sits in a legal gray area rather than being clearly allowed. Enforcement has historically focused on operators rather than individual bettors. We're not lawyers, so make sure you understand your own position before you deposit.
The practical difference matters too: a tote bet sits inside Malaysian regulation, while an offshore bet sits under a foreign license, so your options are much narrower if something goes wrong.
Comparing Horse Racing Betting Sites in Malaysia (October 2026)
Most offshore sportsbooks treat racing as a side section, so the gap between a good racing site and an average one is larger than in football. These five online betting sites gave us the best mix of racing coverage, racing-friendly bonuses, streams, and fast ringgit payouts.

Five Sportsbooks Recommended for Betting on Horse Racing

1xBet
1xBet has the widest racing coverage we found. Its horse racing section listed 178 races across 12 countries when we checked, including Ascot, the Curragh, Chantilly, Keeneland, and Caulfield, with fixed odds, a Starting Price (SP) option, and extra markets on every race. It's also the only site of the five with a welcome bonus built for single bets.
- 178 races across 12 countries listed when we checked
- Sport Singles welcome bonus works with single bets at 2.00 or higher
- Touch 'n Go withdrawals arrived in about 12 minutes in our testing
- Large site and hard to navigate for beginners who only want horse racing
- Curaçao license with no published license number

MelBet
MelBet's racing section leans toward ante-post betting. We counted 69 outright markets covering races in Germany, the UK, Australia, Japan, the US, and New Zealand, which suits you if you like backing a horse weeks before a big race at higher odds. Its Curaçao license is one we verified ourselves.
- 69 ante-post racing markets across six countries
- Verified Curaçao license, OGL/2024/561/0554
- 100% welcome bonus up to RM 1,300 (using promo code MYRMAX)
- The welcome bonus counts accumulators only, so single racing bets won't clear it
- Operates offshore, which can be blocked by local ISPs and offers limited legal protection.

BK8
BK8 is the pick if you want to watch the race you've bet on, since its SABA Sports platform streams horse racing next to the markets. Touch 'n Go deposits arrived instantly in our testing, and our bank withdrawal landed in about 30 minutes.
- Horse racing streams through SABA Sports
- Local payments, including Touch 'n Go, DuitNow, and Boost
- Bank withdrawals in about 30 minutes in our testing
- No outright (ante-post) bets with bonus money
- Anjouan license, a lighter-touch regulator than Curaçao

Dafabet
Dafabet covers horse racing and greyhounds, and it runs a 1.2% weekly rebate on virtual racing. Its Curaçao license checks out on the regulator's certificate page, and its 180% welcome bonus counts single bets at odds of 1.50 or higher, so real race bets can help clear it.
- Verified Curaçao license, OGL/2024/1276/0583
- 1.2% weekly rebate on virtual racing
- 180% welcome bonus up to RM 688 with 45 days to clear it
- The rebate covers virtual races only, not real ones
- Local e-wallets work through payment gateways rather than named buttons

Stake
Stake covers the big meetings in Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong, and it runs the most useful racing promotion we found: on selected races, your win bet pays out as a winner if your horse finishes second. It's crypto-only, but you can buy crypto with ringgit in the wallet and show your balance in MYR.
- "Payout for 2nd" promotion on selected big races
- Malaysian odds format and MYR balance display
- Verified Curaçao license, OGL/2024/1451/0918
- Crypto-only, with no direct ringgit banking
- The racing promotion needs VIP Bronze status first
How We Test Horse Racing Betting Sites
For racing, we check a different set of things than for football, and we do it with real accounts.
The 1xBet horse racing section when we last visited on 15 October: 178 races, with fixed odds for each runner, Starting Price (SP) options, and extra markets behind every race.
Racing coverage. We count the races and countries each site actually lists, rather than repeating its marketing.
Place terms. We check on the bet slip how many places each site pays and at what fraction of the odds. Poor place terms can cost you more than any bonus is worth.
Odds format & SP. We check whether racing odds show in decimal or Malay odds, and whether you can take the Starting Price instead of a fixed price.
Streams. We test whether racing streams need a funded account, only a registration, or an active bet.
Bonus eligibility. We read every welcome bonus to see if single racing bets count, whether outright bets are allowed, and what the minimum odds are.
Payouts and licensing. We time our own withdrawals and check each license on the regulator's site where one is published.
Horse Racing in Malaysia: Races, Clubs, Courses & How To Bet Locally
Malaysian racing is smaller than it used to be, but very much alive. Selangor and Perak run race meetings on alternating weekends, and both offer legal betting through the tote.
How To Bet On Local Horse Racing
You don't need an account to bet at the course, only cash and your MyKad.
Malaysian Horse Racing Clubs & Courses
Malaysian racing runs under the Malayan Racing Association, which also oversaw racing in Singapore until it ended there. According to a 2026 profile of Malaysian racing, Selangor programmed 57 race meetings for 2026 and Perak programmed 26.
Local Racing History
Organized racing here goes back to the Singapore Sporting Club in 1842, followed by Penang in 1864, Perak in 1886, and Selangor in 1896. From the start, the only legal way to bet on course was the totalisator, the pool system still used today.
The Selangor Turf Club's own history shows how betting modernized step by step: the tote was computerized in 1976, telephone betting launched in 1982, the first off-course center opened in Sungai Besi in 1985, and in 1987 a central system linked the betting at Selangor, Penang, and Perak.
Recent years brought big changes. Macau and Singapore both stopped racing in 2024, with Singapore's final race at Kranji on 5 October 2024, and Penang followed in 2025 after the club said it could no longer run at a loss. With fewer racing centers left in the region, Selangor has announced plans to raise its prize money.
Big International Races Malaysians Bet On
Most racing bets from Malaysia go on overseas races, especially in Australia, Hong Kong, and Japan, which race close to our time zone.
| Race | Where | When | Why Bettors Care |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caulfield Cup | Caulfield, Melbourne | Saturday 17 October 2026 | The classic guide to the Melbourne Cup |
| Cox Plate | Flemington, Melbourne | Saturday 24 October 2026 | Australia's top weight-for-age race |
| Breeders' Cup | Keeneland, Kentucky | 30 to 31 October 2026 | Two days of US championship races |
| Melbourne Cup | Flemington, Melbourne | Tuesday 3 November 2026, 12 pm in Malaysia | Australia's biggest race, with up to 24 runners |
| Japan Cup | Tokyo Racecourse | Sunday 29 November 2026 | One of the richest turf races in the world |
| Hong Kong International Races | Sha Tin, Hong Kong | Sunday 13 December 2026 | Four Group 1 races on one card, in our time zone |
| Dubai World Cup | Meydan, Dubai | Late March 2027 | One of the world's richest race nights |
| Grand National | Aintree, UK | April 2027 | A huge jumps race with a field of up to 34 horses |
| Kentucky Derby | Churchill Downs, US | Saturday 1 May 2027 | America's most famous race for three-year-olds |
| Royal Ascot | Ascot, UK | June 2027 | Five days of top-class racing |
Japanese and Hong Kong races run during our afternoon, which makes them especially popular. From 2026, the winner of the Japan Cup can collect up to US$8.2 million with the JRA's bonus. Hong Kong's international race day is just as big: the four Group 1 races at Sha Tin carried a record HK$130 million prize pool in 2025.
Melbourne Cup 2026
Australia's biggest race runs over 3,200 meters at Flemington on 3 November.
The Melbourne Cup is the race Malaysian racing fans follow most closely all year, with 24 runners and some of the highest odds in racing. Our Melbourne Cup 2026 betting guide covers the latest odds, how each market works, and where you can bet and watch from Malaysia.
Horse Racing Betting Markets Explained
A horse race gives you far more ways to bet than "who wins." You can back a horse to place, pick the first two or three in order, link horses across races, or bet weeks early at higher odds. Each market changes how hard your bet is to win and how much it pays.
Special bets like the tricast and First Four are easier to find at the local tote and racing specialists than at international sportsbooks, so check what your site offers.
Popular Horse Racing Betting Markets
How Horse Racing Odds Work
Most Malaysian bettors know Malay odds from football, but racing odds work differently.
Fixed Odds vs Tote Betting
Fixed odds lock in your odds when you bet. Back a horse at 6.00 and you get 6.00, even if it drifts to 10.00 before the race. Offshore sportsbooks mostly use fixed odds.
Tote betting, or pool betting, is what the Malaysian turf clubs use. Every bet goes into a pool, the operator takes its cut, and the rest is split between winning tickets, so you only know your payout after the race.
Some sites also offer the Starting Price (SP), the official odds when the race starts. Taking SP suits you if you think a horse's odds will drift out before the off.
Decimal & Fractional Odds
Racing odds almost always show in decimal at international sites. When we switched MelBet to Malaysian odds, its racing markets still showed decimal odds, so it's worth learning them.
MelBet's ante-post racing markets with the odds format set to Malaysian. The racing odds still show in decimal, which is common across racing at international sites.
Decimal odds show your total return per RM 1 staked. UK sites often use fractional odds instead:
| Fractional | Decimal | RM 10 Returns | Implied Chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/2 | 1.50 | RM 15 | 66.7% |
| Evens (1/1) | 2.00 | RM 20 | 50% |
| 2/1 | 3.00 | RM 30 | 33.3% |
| 5/2 | 3.50 | RM 35 | 28.6% |
| 4/1 | 5.00 | RM 50 | 20% |
| 10/1 | 11.00 | RM 110 | 9.1% |
| 20/1 | 21.00 | RM 210 | 4.8% |
Implied chance is 1 divided by the decimal odds, so a horse at 5.00 is rated about a 20% chance. Add up every horse in a race, and you'll get more than 100%; the extra is the bookmaker's margin.
Place Terms & Each-Way Returns
How many places an each-way bet pays depends on the race. Many international sites follow the standard UK terms:
| Race Type | Places Paid | Fraction of Win Odds |
|---|---|---|
| 2 to 4 runners | Win only | No each-way betting |
| 5 to 7 runners | 2 | 1/4 |
| 8 or more runners | 3 | 1/5 |
| Handicaps, 12 to 15 runners | 3 | 1/4 |
| Handicaps, 16 or more runners | 4 | 1/4 |
Example: A RM 10 each-way bet at 11.00 on an 8-runner race costs RM 20. If your horse finishes third, the place part pays at 1/5 of the odds, which is 3.00, so you get RM 30 back from the place bet and lose the win bet. If it wins, you get RM 110 plus RM 30, for RM 140 in total.
Withdrawals & Dead Heats
If a horse is withdrawn after you've taken a fixed odds, some sites reduce your winnings for the weaker field, known in the UK as a Rule 4 deduction. In a dead heat, your stake is usually split, so you're paid half your winnings.
How to Read a Racecard & Form Guide
A racecard looks busy at first, but every part tells you something useful.
An example racecard with fictional runners. The labels show where to find each piece of information that matters before you bet.
Saddlecloth number. The horse's number, which you also use to place a tote bet.
Barrier. The starting stall. Barrier 1 is next to the inside rail, which is a real advantage on tight tracks and in sprints.
Weight. What the horse carries, including the jockey, in kilograms. In handicaps, better horses carry more, and apprentice jockeys can often claim an allowance, shown in brackets.
Jockey and trainer. A strong jockey switching onto a horse, or a trainer in good form, is a useful sign.
Form. Finishing positions from recent runs, newest on the right:
- 1 to 9: where the horse finished
- 0: finished 10th or worse
- x: a break between campaigns, used on Australian cards
- / or -: a break between seasons, used on UK cards
- F, P, U: fell, pulled up, or unseated its rider
Class and distance. Malaysian cards show these together, such as Class 5B over 1,150 meters. A horse dropping in class often has an easier task.
Track condition. Australian tracks are rated from 1 (firm) to 10 (heavy), and the official track rating scale explains each number. UK cards use words like good or soft instead. Check how each horse has run on similar ground.
How to Bet on Horse Racing from Malaysia (Step-by-Step)
Setting up online takes about ten minutes, so do it a day or two before a big race.
How to Watch Horse Racing Live in Malaysia
Several betting sites live stream races, but each has its own rules:
| Betting Site | Racing Streams | What You Need |
|---|---|---|
| 1xBet | On selected races | A registered account |
| MelBet | On selected events | A registered account |
| BK8 | Yes, through SABA Sports | A registered account |
| Stake | Rarely available | Check the race page |
| Dafabet | Rarely available | Check the race page |
Not every race streams. Racing bodies control who can show their races, so a site might stream one meeting and only show a live tracker for another. If you'd rather watch on a big screen, the Selangor Turf Club shows overseas races alongside its own and takes tote bets on them.
Horse Racing Bonuses & Promotions
Most sports welcome bonuses aren't built for racing. Three rules came up again and again in the terms we read:
- Accumulator-only turnover. Single racing bets don't count.
- No outright bets. Ante-post bets placed with bonus money are canceled.
- Exclusions and minimum odds. Virtual racing and bets below a minimum odds, such as 1.50, don't count.
So pick a bonus that works with how you bet. Racing offers, like a payout when your horse finishes second, are often better value than a big welcome bonus.
Welcome Offers
These are the Malaysian welcome bonuses at our five sites and how well each one works with racing bets:
| Betting Site | Welcome Offer | Turnover | Works With Racing? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1xBet (Sport Singles) | 100% up to RM 808 | Three winning single bets in a row at 2.00 or higher | Yes, built for single bets |
| 1xBet (Standard) | 100% up to RM 588, or RM 760 with MAXMY | 5x the bonus on accumulators of 3+ selections | Single racing bets don't count |
| MelBet | 100% up to RM 1,000, or RM 1,300 with MYRMAX | 5x the bonus on accumulators of 3+ selections | Single racing bets don't count |
| BK8 | 100% up to RM 300 | 12x deposit plus bonus, within 30 days | Race bets can count, but outright bets can't |
| Dafabet | 180% up to RM 688, or 60% up to RM 3,000 | 12x deposit plus bonus, at odds of 1.50+, within 45 days | Real race bets can count, but virtual racing can't |
| Stake | 200% up to USD $2,000 | 40x deposit plus bonus, no minimum odds | Yes, but the requirement is heavy |
How 1xBet's Sport Singles bonus works. Deposit at least RM 20, and 1xBet matches it 100% up to RM 808. You then stake the whole bonus balance on a single bet at 2.00 or higher, three times in a row, rolling your winnings each time. If all three win, the original bonus moves to your main balance; if one loses, it's gone. With a RM 100 bonus, you might bet RM 100 at 3.00, then RM 300 at 2.50, then RM 750 at 2.00. At those odds, the chance of all three winning is only around 7%, so treat it as a long shot.
Dafabet's terms have a small mix-up. Its example says "10 times" but calculates 12x (RM 3,360 on a RM 100 deposit with the 180% offer), so go by 12x. Enter DSFDB180MYR or DSFDB60MYR at the cashier on your first deposit.
Stake's bonus is claimed through live chat. Register with the promo code MYRMAX, complete KYC Level 2, and ask support to add it. Sportsbook bets, including racing, count 75 cents per dollar staked.
Promotions
Stake: Payout for 2nd. Until 31 December 2026, your first pre-race, fixed-odds win bet on each selected race pays out as a winner if your horse finishes second, with stakes from US$1 to US$50. You need VIP Bronze status, and payouts can take up to 96 hours. When we checked, the selected races included the Caulfield Cup on 17 October (2:15 pm in Malaysia), Tokyo's Fuji Stakes, Kyoto's Shuka Sho, and the Sha Tin Trophy.
Stake's "Payout for 2nd" promotion turns a narrow second-place finish into a winning bet on selected races.
Dafabet: 1.2% Virtual Racing Rebate. Dafabet pays 1.2% back weekly on its virtual sports, including virtual horse racing from Betradar, Kiron, Vir2al Games, LEAP, and Edge Gaming. You opt in through a form, rebates arrive every Monday at 1x turnover, and the minimum payout is RM 4. Virtual races are computer-generated, and you can't get rebates while a welcome bonus is being wagered.
Dafabet's virtual sports rebate pays 1.2% back every week on virtual horse racing, greyhounds, and other virtual events.
Operators often add racing offers around big race days, and we'll add new ones here as soon as they go live.

Last Horse Racing Betting Tips
- Check place terms before every each-way bet. Four places at a quarter of the odds beats three places at a fifth.
- Wait for the final field if you're unsure. A withdrawn ante-post pick usually means a lost stake.
- Follow the weather. A wet track can turn a race upside down.
- Back proven distance and course form. A horse that has won over the trip or at the track has fewer questions to answer.
- Compare odds between sites. Racing odds vary more between bookmakers than football odds.
- Only claim bonuses that count racing bets. If a bonus needs accumulators, skip it.
- Keep a simple record of your bets. It's the fastest way to see what works, and when to stop.
