Where an app is missing from the Malaysian App Store, we say so. Where the iOS listing uses a different name from the operator, we say that too.

We only list apps we have measured ourselves. The other apps on this page have not been through a full technical install yet, so we don't publish size or permission figures for them. When we test them, they get added here.
What the permission counts mean in practice. Neither the 12Play app nor the BK8 app requests access to your contacts or your microphone, which is the answer to the question most people actually have. The 1xBet app asks for 39 permissions, the most of the three, though many of them are standard Android system permissions rather than data access.
BK8 lets you turn 5 of its 16 permissions off after install without breaking the app. That's more control than most gambling apps give you.
Two of these apps can update themselves. Because they're installed outside the Play Store, the 12Play and 1xBet apps carry the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission, which lets the app install a new version of itself. It's convenient, and it means updates arrive outside Google's review process. Worth knowing rather than worth avoiding.
Storage is not trivial for the 12Play app. At 170 MB installed, it's the largest we've measured, roughly six times the size of the BK8 app.

Every bonus figure above is the maximum amount, not what you'll get. Turnover requirements vary from 5x at the international books to 35x at the Asian sites, and several are calculated on deposit plus bonus rather than the bonus alone.
The iOS Problem: Why Some Apps Aren't in the App Store
This is the finding that surprised us most, and it affects anyone on an iPhone.
Apple allows real-money gambling apps, but only from operators licensed in that specific country. Its App Review Guidelines require the developer to hold a license in every region where the app is offered. Malaysia has no online gambling licensing regime, so offshore operators cannot list a standard gambling app there.
1. The app simply isn't there
We could not find the 1xBet app in the Malaysian App Store. The 1xBet website advertises iOS availability, and the app exists in other markets, but a Malaysian Apple ID does not return it. If you're on an iPhone, the PWA is your route.
2. The listing uses a different name
The BK8 iOS app is listed under a name that has nothing to do with BK8. When we tested it, the App Store listing was called Cookbyte. That name changes over time, which is why the BK8 download page gives you a link rather than telling you what to search for.
It is the official app, and it does feel wrong when you install it. The reason is Apple's rules, not anything shady on BK8's side. But it also means you cannot verify you have the right app by searching the App Store. Always start from the operator's own download page.
3. There's no iOS app at all
12Play, Uwin33, WE88 and 22Bet offer Android apps only. On iPhone, you add the site as a PWA, which we cover further down.
Never search the App Store for a gambling app by the operator's name and install whatever comes back. Decoy names are used by legitimate operators and scammers alike. Start from the official website every time.

The 12Play app is Android-only, and it's the biggest one we've tested: 102.8 MB as an APK, 170 MB once installed, running version 2.0.1. It requests 21 permissions, with no contacts or microphone access.
The live betting section is the strongest reason to use it. Pre-match markets are broad, and in-play updates without the reload lag you get in a browser.
Android users download the APK file directly from the 12Play website.
A correction we published after our first review: we originally reported that the 12Play app had no in-app updater. It does. REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES appears in the permission manifest, which means the app can install its own updates.

Read the exclusion column before the percentage column. AW8's 150% is the largest live casino bonus here, and it excludes Evolution, which is the provider running most of the tables people actually want to play.
Non-live table games rarely count toward turnover at any of these operators. Blackjack, video poker, baccarat, and American roulette are excluded almost everywhere, even though they sit inside the casino section.

What You Gain & Give Up by Using an App
Sports betting apps pull live data feeds that update odds as a match runs. Casino apps use a random number generator so each spin or deal is independent of the last.
Both types do the same three things every time you place a bet: check where you are, check your balance, and lock in the odds or game state before confirming. That exchange runs over an encrypted connection, which is why apps generally handle unstable mobile data better than a browser tab.
