Is Tennis Betting Legal in Malaysia?
Malaysia has had no licensed sports betting operator since 2010, so every tennis sportsbook serving Malaysian players holds a license from another country.
Horse racing has a legal local route through the turf clubs, but tennis doesn't. Malaysia has no licensed sports betting operators. The Finance Ministry issued a sports betting license to Ascot Sports in January 2010, then withdrew it in October the same year after a strong public backlash, and in 2018 the government said it had no plans to approve any sports betting license for anyone.
So every tennis bet placed from Malaysia goes through an offshore sportsbook licensed in another country. Malaysia's main gambling laws, the Betting Act 1953 and the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, were written long before online betting and don't spell out where an individual using a foreign site stands. Enforcement has historically targeted operators and illegal bookies rather than individual bettors, and Muslim players are also subject to Syariah law. We're not lawyers, so understand your own position before you deposit.
What this means in practice: No Malaysian body will step in if a sportsbook refuses to pay. Your protection depends on the foreign license, so we check every license on the regulator's site and favor sportsbooks with a license we can verify.
Comparing Tennis Betting Sites in Malaysia (2026)
Most Malaysia betting sites offer tennis, but they handle it very differently. Some list hundreds of matches a day with free streams, while others exclude the most popular tennis markets from their bonuses. These five gave us the best mix of coverage, odds, streaming, and tennis-friendly bonuses.

- Welcome bonus counts tennis handicaps at odds of 1.50+
- 45 days to clear the welcome bonus
- Streams need a funded account

How We Test Tennis Betting Sites
We open real accounts and check what actually affects your tennis bets.
Stake's tennis lobby on the day we counted it: 146 real matches across ATP, WTA, Challenger, and ITF events, plus a separate "Simulated Reality" section of computer-simulated matches.
Coverage. We count the matches each site lists, from Grand Slams to ITF events, and the markets on a single match.
Retirement rules. We read each sportsbook's tennis rules to see what happens to your bet if a player retires.
Odds and margins. We compare odds on the same match across sites and work out the bookmaker's margin, which we explain further down.
Live betting and streams. We test how quickly live odds return after each point and whether streams require a registered account or a deposit.
Bonus rules. We check whether tennis handicaps and totals count toward each bonus, and what the minimum odds are.
Payouts. We time our own withdrawals in ringgit.
Tennis Tournaments Malaysians Bet On
The tennis year follows a clear rhythm: four Grand Slams, nine Masters 1000 events, season-ending finals, and team competitions. These are the big ones coming up:
| Tournament | Where | When |
|---|---|---|

The Best Tournaments for Malaysian Time Zones
Where a tournament is played decides whether you can bet and watch at a normal hour. Malaysia doesn't use daylight saving time, while Europe, the US, and Australia do, so these times can shift by an hour depending on the month.
| Tournament | Play Usually Starts | In Malaysia |
|---|---|---|
| Australian Open | 11 am day session, 7 pm night session | Around 8 am and 4 pm |
| Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan | Local time | Same time as Malaysia |
| Tokyo | Local time | One hour earlier in Malaysia |
| Roland Garros | 11 am, with a night session from around 8:15 pm | Around 5 pm, night matches around 2 am |
| Wimbledon | 11 am on outside courts | Around 6 pm, running past midnight |
| US Open | 11 am, with a night session at 7 pm | Around 11 pm, night matches around 7 am |
The takeaway: The Australian Open and the Asian swing are the easiest tournaments to follow live from Malaysia, with most matches during the day and early evening. Wimbledon starts in the evening and runs late, while the US Open plays mostly overnight, so pre-match bets placed before bed are often more practical than live betting.
Tennis in Malaysia
Malaysia has a long tennis history. The Malayan Championships started in 1921 and became the Malaysian Open in 1964. More recently, Kuala Lumpur hosted an ATP 250 event from 2009 to 2015, played indoors at the 7,000-seat Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil. Nikolay Davydenko won the first edition, Kei Nishikori won in 2014, and the 2015 edition brought in David Ferrer as champion before the event was cancelled and moved to Chengdu in 2016.
The women's Malaysian Open ran in Kuala Lumpur until 2017, with Caroline Wozniacki and Ashleigh Barty among its champions. Today, Malaysia has no ATP or WTA event, and the national team plays in the Davis Cup's Asia/Oceania zone, so Malaysian tennis bets are almost always on international events.
Tennis Betting Markets Explained
Tennis markets go far beyond picking the winner. You can bet on sets, games, tiebreaks, and single points during live play. Many markets are linked: if you expect a close match, total games, set betting, and tiebreaks often point the same way.
1xBet's ATP Lyon board shows match winner, total games, and game handicap odds side by side, with 180+ extra markets per match.

How Tennis Odds Work in Malaysia
Tennis sportsbooks serving Malaysia show odds in decimal, Malay, or both, and switching between them helps you compare sites.
Malay Odds vs Decimal on Tennis Markets
Many sportsbooks show tennis match-winner odds in decimal but list handicaps and totals in Malay odds, as they do for football. MelBet's handicap board is a good example.
MelBet's handicap and totals board for Berrettini vs Jacquet: the winner odds are shown in decimal (1.7 and 2.151), while the game handicap and total games lines are shown in Malay odds.
Positive Malay odds show your profit for every RM 1 staked. On MelBet, over 23.5 games in Berrettini vs Jacquet was 0.94, meaning a RM 10 bet wins RM 9.40. On 1xBet, the same line showed as 1.94 in decimal. To convert positive Malay odds to decimal, just add 1.
Negative Malay odds show how much you stake to win RM 1. At -0.80, you stake RM 8 to win RM 10. In decimal, that's 2.25 (1 plus 1 divided by 0.80).
Implied Chance and the Bookmaker's Margin
Implied chance is 1 divided by the decimal odds. Because tennis match betting has only two outcomes, you can check a sportsbook's margin in seconds: add the two implied chances, and anything over 100% is the bookmaker's cut.
| Market (1xBet, Fery vs Gojo) | Odds | Implied Chances Added | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Match winner | 1.56 and 2.428 | 105.3% | 5.3% |
| Total games, 23.5 | 1.99 and 1.76 | 107.1% | 7.1% |
| Game handicap, 2.5 | 1.865 and 1.796 | 109.3% | 9.3% |
Every ATP match we checked on that board showed the same pattern: around 5.3% on the match winner, but more on totals and handicaps. That doesn't make handicaps a bad bet, but you need a stronger opinion to beat the margin.
Tennis Retirement Rules: What Happens to Your Bet
Players retire through injury or illness more often in tennis than in most sports, especially when they've got a small injury from a busy schedule. When that happens, your bet is settled under your sportsbook's retirement rule, and these rules differ widely between sites. Most fall into one of three types:
| Rule Type | What Happens If a Player Retires |
|---|---|
| First serve | Bets stand once the first point is played. The player who goes through wins your bet. |
| One set completed | If a player retires before the first set ends, match bets are void, and your stake comes back. After the first set, the player who goes through counts as the winner. |
| Full match | Any retirement before the match ends voids all match bets, whatever the score. |
Markets already decided usually stand. If your player won the first set before retiring in the second, a first set bet normally pays. Totals and handicaps are usually void unless the outcome is already certain, such as over 20.5 games when 21 were played.
A walkover is different. If a player withdraws before the match starts, bets are usually void everywhere. In an accumulator, a voided leg normally counts as odds of 1.00, and the rest of your acca still stands.
How to check your sportsbook's rule: open its rules or terms, find the tennis section, and search for "retire." It takes two minutes and is worth doing before you back a player with a known injury.
What to Look for in a Tennis Match Before You Bet
Rankings only tell part of the story. Surface, form, fatigue, and travel often matter more, especially in the lower-ranked matches that fill most betting boards.
Surfaces: Hard, Clay & Grass
Hard courts are the most common surface and fairly even between servers and returners. Clay slows the ball and makes it bounce higher, which helps patient baseliners and makes breaks of serve more common. Grass keeps the ball low and fast, so big servers dominate, and tiebreaks are more frequent. Surfaces change week to week: in the same week we checked, ATP Lyon was on clay and Brussels on indoor hard courts, so always check a player's record on the surface.
Serve & Return Stats
Two numbers matter most: how often a player holds serve, and how often they break serve. Total games and tiebreak lines are built around them, and the ATP stats leaderboards compare players on serve, return, and pressure points for free. Breaks are more common in women's tennis, so handicap and totals lines behave differently there.
Form, Fatigue & Travel
Look beyond results. A player coming off a three-hour match the day before, or who just flew in from another continent, is more likely to fade or even retire. Recent form on the same surface is the best guide, not form from months ago.
Best-of-Three vs Best-of-Five Sets
Men's Grand Slam matches are best of five sets, while almost everything else is best of three. A longer match gives the better player time to recover from a bad start, so upsets are rarer at the men's Grand Slams. In best-of-three, one bad set can decide everything.
Live Tennis Betting & Streaming in Malaysia
Tennis is one of the best sports for live betting, since odds react to every point and break of serve. Watching while you bet makes a huge difference, and several sportsbooks stream tennis for free once you register, with no deposit needed.
How In-Play Tennis Betting Works
Live markets update point by point. A favorite trailing by a set and a break can drift from 1.30 to over 2.00 within minutes, then snap back just as fast after they break back. Markets pause during rallies and reopen between points, so a bet can be rejected or accepted at new odds. Check your site's settings to see whether it accepts odds changes before you start.

How to Bet on Tennis from Malaysia (Step-by-Step)
Tennis Betting Bonuses & Promotions
Bonuses can add real value to tennis betting, but only if your bets actually count. The biggest catch is that many sportsbooks exclude handicap and total bets from their bonus turnover, and those are exactly the markets many tennis bettors use most.
Welcome Offers
The good news is that most welcome bonuses work well with tennis match-winner bets. At 1xBet, MelBet, Megapari, 888starz, and Dafabet, the minimum odds range from 1.40 to 1.50, and plenty of tennis favorites fall within that range, making them handy legs for clearing an accumulator bonus.
| Sportsbook | Welcome Offer | Wagering | Tennis Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| MelBet | 100% up to RM 1,300 with MYRMAX | 5x the bonus on accas of 3+ selections at 1.40+, within 30 days | Use match-winner legs; handicaps and totals don't count |
| 1xBet (Standard) | 100% up to RM 760 with MAXMY | 5x the bonus on accas of 3+ selections at 1.40+, within 30 days | Use match-winner legs; handicaps and totals don't count |
| 1xBet (Sport Singles) | 100% up to RM 808 | Three winning single bets in a row at 2.00+ | Suits tennis underdogs at odds of 2.00 or higher |
| Megapari | Up to RM 1,150 across two deposits with MYRMAX | 5x the bonus on accas of 3+ selections at 1.40+ | Use match-winner legs |
| 888starz | Up to RM 650 on the first deposit with MYRMAX | 5x the bonus on accumulators | Use match-winner legs |
| Dafabet | 180% up to RM 688, or 60% up to RM 3,000 | 12x deposit plus bonus at odds of 1.50+, within 45 days | Handicaps count; half-won bets count at half |
| BK8 | 100% up to RM 300 | 12x deposit plus bonus, within 30 days | Handicaps and over/under count; outrights don't |
| 12Play | 150% up to RM 300 | 10x deposit plus bonus, with bets below 1.50 excluded | Handicaps can count at 1.50+ |
| 22Bet | 100% up to RM 620 | 5x the bonus on accas of 3+ selections at 1.40+, within 7 days | Only 7 days to clear, so plan your matches first |
| Stake | 200% up to US$2,000 | 40x deposit plus bonus, no minimum odds | Any tennis market counts, but the requirement is heavy |
Best for tennis overall: MelBet's RM 1,300 bonus, if you're happy betting tennis match-winner accumulators. Best if you bet handicaps: BK8 or Dafabet, where handicap bets count toward the turnover. Best for single underdog bets: 1xBet's Sport Singles bonus, though all three bets must win in a row.
Promotions
We read the full terms of every tennis-friendly promotion at our featured sites. No refunds on bets when a player retires, so the retirement rules above still apply.
1xBet: 1xTennis Challenge
The 1xTennis Challenge pays 8%, 10%, or 18% of your weekly tennis net loss back as a free bet, depending on how many qualifying bets you place.
The only tennis-specific promotion we found runs until 30 November 2026. Press "Take part" and bet at least RM 13 on ATP, WTA, Challenger, ITF, UTR, or team events, with singles at 1.50+ or accumulators with every leg at 1.40+. Each week, you get a free bet of 8% (10 to 15 bets), 10% (16 to 25), or 18% (26+) of your weekly net loss, up to RM 409. The banner mentions your total stake, but the full terms calculate it based on your weekly net loss, so follow the terms. Handicaps and totals don't count, and you must use the free bet on a 3+ leg accumulator at 1.50+ within 7 days.
1xBet: Weekly Jackpot
Bets of at least RM 21 at odds of 1.40+ on any sport, including tennis, enter a weekly jackpot draw starting at RM 2,042. Ten winners are drawn every Monday at 5 pm Malaysian time, with first place taking 30%, paid as bonus points.
MelBet: Accumulator Booster
MelBet's Accumulator Booster raises the total odds of accumulators with four or more selections by 1.20+, both pre-match and live.
Add four or more selections at 1.20+, and MelBet automatically raises your total odds, pre-match or live. The boost is small: 1.01 for four selections, 1.02 for five, rising to 1.17 at 20. You can't cash out boosted bets, and bonus-funded bets don't qualify.
Megapari: 3% Weekly Sports Cashback
Megapari pays back 3% of weekly losses on sports bets at 1.50+, from RM 5 up to RM 4,580, every Tuesday by 5 pm Malaysian time. Handicaps and totals don't count, so stick to match-winner and set markets.
22Bet: Friday Reload
22Bet's Friday Reload doubles a Friday deposit up to RM 458, but the bonus must be cleared within 24 hours.
Deposit at least RM 5 on a Friday for a 100% bonus up to RM 458. The catch is speed: you must wager it 3x within 24 hours on accumulators with 3+ selections at 1.40+, excluding handicaps and totals. Plan your matches before you deposit.
BK8: You Play We Pay
BK8's You Play We Pay refunds 100% of a losing first bet up to RM 200, but its terms only name football, basketball, and esports matches.
New members who lose a first bet of at least RM 100 get the loss back, up to RM 200, with 5x turnover. The bet must be a pre-match handicap or over/under at odds of 1.70+ (0.70 Malay). The terms name only football, basketball, and esports, so ask live chat before using it on tennis, and you can't combine it with the welcome bonus.
12Play: Free Bet Hunting
Until 1 November 2026, bets on 12Sport at odds of 1.10+ earn points toward weekly free bets of up to RM 888, and tennis counts. Only your first bet on each match earns points, and free bets pay only winnings, not the stake.
Uwin33: 5% Weekly Cashback and RM 10 Free Credit
Uwin33 returns 5% of weekly net losses, up to RM 1,688, once you've lost at least RM 200 (deposits minus withdrawals). It lands every Monday before 10 am with 10x turnover, starting from your second week. New customers also get RM 10 in free credit to use on tennis.

Tennis Betting Mobile Apps
Tennis is the sport where a good mobile betting app matters most. Matches run in every time zone, and live odds change on every point, so you want a fast bet slip, a live tracker, and streams that load quickly on mobile data.
Most sportsbooks offer Android apps as APK files from their own sites, while iPhone users get a web app instead. Stake runs in your mobile browser. Only download APK files from the sportsbook's official website, never from links in messages or groups. Our app reviews cover each site's install size, permissions, and features.
Pros & Cons: Advantages and Disadvantages of Tennis Betting
- A year-round calendar, from January in Australia to the Davis Cup Finals in late November
- Only two possible winners, so match odds are easy to read and compare
- The Australian Open and the Asian swing play during Malaysian daytime and evening
- Deep live markets that move with every point
- Free serve and return stats from the official tour websites
- Retirements can void or lose your bet, depending on the site's rules
- Wimbledon and the US Open mostly run overnight in Malaysia
- Lower-level matches have a higher risk of match-fixing
- Many bonuses exclude handicaps and totals
Tennis Match-Fixing & Integrity
Tennis is an individual sport played at hundreds of low-level events with small prize money, which makes it a target for match-fixers. The biggest case in recent years involved a syndicate run by Grigor Sargsyan, which Belgian police broke up, and it ended with Sargsyan receiving a five-year prison sentence in 2023. The players punished in the case were mostly ranked in the hundreds or lower, and the matches took place in 2017 and 2018. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), an independent body set up by the ATP, WTA, ITF, and the Grand Slams to investigate corruption, has since banned dozens of linked players.
For bettors, the lesson is practical. Grand Slam and tour matches are heavily monitored, while ITF and some lower-level events carry more risk because players earn so little. Be wary of strange odds moves in obscure matches, don't bet big on low-level events you know little about, and remember that sportsbooks can void bets on suspected fixed matches.
Final Tennis Betting Tips
- Check the surface before anything else. A player who wins on hard courts can struggle badly on clay.
- Read your sportsbook's retirement rule. It decides whether you lose, win, or get your stake back when a player quits.
- Watch for fatigue and travel. A long match yesterday or a flight from another continent can change a match.
- Compare odds formats before you compare odds. A 0.94 in Malay odds is the same as 1.94 in decimal.
- Use match-winner bets to clear accumulator bonuses. Handicaps and totals often don't count.
- Bet live only when you can watch. Use the free streams at 1xBet, MelBet, Megapari, or 888starz.
- Be careful with low-level matches. ITF and lower-tier events have more integrity risk.
