BK8 App Review: Android APK & iOS Install Tested
This review is based on actual use. We installed the BK8 app on a Samsung Galaxy S24 and an Apple iPhone 15, pulled the permission list off the device, and ran through every section before writing this.
The BK8 app is BK8's casino and sportsbook application for Android and iOS. On Android it's a 29.7 MB APK from BK8's own site. On iPhone it's a normal App Store install, but not one you can find by searching, and that's the part worth reading before you start.
Three findings from our own devices shaped this review.
The iOS app installs under a different name, and that name changes. When we tested, BK8's own guide sent us to an App Store listing called Cookbyte. Earlier guides, including an earlier version of this page, name a different decoy app entirely. Anyone following an outdated guide will be searching the App Store for something that no longer exists.
The APK declares 16 permissions, and only 5 of them appear in your phone's settings. We pulled both lists. The gap between what Android shows you and what the package actually asks for is the part nobody explains, and we've published both below.
The app updates itself. It declares the install-packages permission, which means new versions download inside the app rather than sending you back to a browser. That matters more than it sounds, and we explain why further down.
Android: download the APK directly from BK8. It isn't on Google Play in Malaysia.
iOS: go through BK8's instructions page. The listing name will not say BK8.
The download prompt on BK8's mobile site. It sits above the main navigation, and it's the route we'd use rather than searching for the app anywhere else.

Downloading the official BK8 app directly from their website removes the risk of visiting a phishing site while searching for the real site. Some bad actors create replica sites to steal your information; therefore, it's a good security measure to download the BK8 app from the official homepage.

On iPhone, the install does go through the App Store, but not in the way you'd expect. You can't find it by searching, and the listing you end up installing carries a different name. We've written that up in full below.

Enabling "Install Unknown Apps" Without Leaving Yourself Exposed
Android blocks sideloaded installs by default, and the safe pattern is narrow and temporary:
- Download the APK first, then tap the file.
- Android offers to open settings for the browser you downloaded through. Grant permission to that one app only.
- Install.
- Go back and switch the permission off again.
Leaving sideloading enabled across the whole system is what turns a malicious APK into a problem months later. Granting it to one browser for half a minute doesn't.
Expect a Google Play Protect warning during install. It fires for anything Google hasn't scanned through the Play Store, which covers every betting app in this market, so it describes the distribution route rather than BK8 specifically. In practice, it means nobody is checking the file on your behalf, so the domain you downloaded from is doing all the work.

At 29.7 MB, this is the lightest betting APK we've measured in Malaysia. For comparison, the 1xBet app is 48.2 MB and the 12Play app is 102.8 MB. That's a real advantage if you're downloading on mobile data.
The gap between 29.7 MB and 200 MB installed is normal and catches people out. Android needs temporary space to extract the package during installation, and the app then caches game graphics, lobby assets, and live data. That cache grows the more you play. Freeing up exactly 30 MB before you start will not be enough.
Android 6.0 as a floor is unusually generous. Most current betting apps want Android 7.0 or higher, so BK8 runs on older hardware that some competitors have dropped.
The 16 Permissions the BK8 App Requests
This is the part of a sideloaded app nobody publishes, and it's what tells you where the software can actually reach on your phone.
There's a detail here worth understanding first, because it explains why permission counts you see elsewhere disagree with each other.
Android only shows you the permissions you can control. Open Settings → Apps → BK8 → Permissions and you'll see five toggles. Decompile the APK itself and the package declares sixteen. The other eleven are classified as normal or system permissions, which Android grants automatically at install time because they don't touch private data.
Both numbers are correct. They're just measuring different things, and we've published both rather than picking whichever one reads better.
The 5 permissions you can toggle
These are what Android calls runtime permissions, meaning the system asks you directly, and you can revoke them later.

Location has to stay on. It isn't optional in a licensed gambling app, and turning it off will stop bets from being accepted. The other four can wait until a feature needs them. Camera, in particular, only matters when you're uploading KYC documents or scanning a QR code to deposit.
Notifications are the one we'd think hardest about. Promotional pushes from a betting app are designed to bring you back, and that's a different thing from a bet settlement alert. Android lets you allow one and mute the other inside the app's notification channels.
The 11 permissions granted automatically
These are declared in the APK and granted at install without asking. None of them reach personal data.

No contacts, no microphone, no call log, no SMS access. Worth stating plainly, because all four appear in some competing betting apps and none of them are needed to place a bet. On the permission side specifically, BK8 asks for less than most of what we've tested.
How to Revoke Permissions You Don't Want
On Android 6.0 and above, you can turn the five runtime permissions off at any time:
- Open Settings → Apps → BK8
- Tap Permissions
- Toggle off anything you'd rather not share
Location and internet need to stay on. Everything else is negotiable, and the app will prompt you again if you later use a feature that needs one back.
The BK8 App Updates Itself
REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES is in the manifest, which means the app is built to download and install its own updates rather than sending you back to a download page.
How it works: When a new version ships, the app downloads the update internally and prompts you to install it. Android still requires you to confirm the install tap, which is standard for any APK and not something BK8 can skip. The dialog you'll see is the same one from BK8's own install guide above, including the line about your existing data being preserved.
Why this matters more than it sounds. On an app with no updater, every update sends you back to a download page, and that's the exact moment people type "BK8 app download" into a search engine and land somewhere that isn't BK8. An in-app updater removes that trip entirely, which removes the most repeatable phishing exposure a sideloaded app has.
One rule that follows from it: accept update prompts from inside the app, never from a web page telling you an update is available. A browser page claiming your BK8 app is out of date is not how a real update reaches you.
BK8 App Download for iOS: The Listing Isn't Called BK8
While most Malaysian betting sites overlook iOS users, BK8 doesn't. iPhone users can install the BK8 iOS app to access dozens of mobile games or even bet on an esports battle between Team Liquid and Fnatic.
But the App Store listing does not say BK8, and the name it does say changes over time.
When we ran through the install, BK8's own guide sent us to a listing called "Cookbyte," published under a developer name unrelated to BK8. An earlier version of this review named a different app entirely, because that's what the guide said at the time. Both were correct when written. Neither will stay correct indefinitely.
Step three of BK8's iOS guide. The App Store listing is named "Cookbyte" and shows recipe screenshots, which is what you're meant to install.
This is the single most important thing on this page for iPhone users, so we'll be direct about it: do not search the App Store for a specific app name you read in a guide, including this one. Follow BK8's instructions page each time and use whatever name it shows you on the day. A guide naming a decoy app is a guide with an expiry date, and searching for an outdated name is exactly how someone installs the wrong thing.
To download the BK8 app in Malaysia for iOS, you must visit the official BK8 Malaysia betting site. It's not possible to search for the app directly in the App Store, so you must go through the BK8 Malaysia page to acquire the betting app for iOS. See our complete step-by-step guide below.
Step one: press the Apple iOS button on BK8's download panel, then open the Instructions link underneath it.
How to download the Malaysian BK8 App for iOS in a few simple steps:
- Visit the Official BK8 Website.
- Navigate to the Download Page in the main menu.
- Click on the Apple iOS Download Button.
- A new tab will open, and you will be redirected to an app preview page. Click "OPEN" on the app preview page.
- You will be redirected to an App Store listing under a different name. When we tested, that name was "Cookbyte." Click "GET" to install it.
- Once the download is completed, open that app to launch BK8. Tap "Allow Paste" when prompted, since the app needs to read the link that carried you there from Safari.
Step four: once opened, the app launches into BK8 itself. The Burnley FC partner screen is the first thing you see, which is how you know you're in the right place.
Be aware that a direct search for the decoy app name in the App Store will not grant you access to the BK8 app. BK8 states this themselves. The link has to come from their site.
Why the app is listed this way. Apple restricts real-money gambling apps by territory and requires operators to hold a license recognized in each market they're distributed to. Where an operator can't meet that, a differently named listing is a common workaround across this industry. It works, and it's also worth knowing that you're installing something Apple hasn't reviewed as a gambling app.
If that route doesn't appeal, you can add BK8 to your home screen as a web shortcut instead: open the site in Safari, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen." You lose biometric login and the native video player, but you keep the full platform, and it updates automatically because it's the live site. We tested both.
Making Sure You Have the Real BK8 App
The download source matters more here than on most apps, because two of the three install routes involve something other than a plainly labeled BK8 download.
- Use one link, every time. Bookmark BK8's download page or come back to this one.
- On iOS, never search the App Store by name. The decoy listing changes, and searching for an old name is the realistic way someone installs a fake.
- Never install a BK8 APK sent to you over WhatsApp, Telegram, or SMS, whoever it appears to come from.
- Accept updates only from inside the app, never from a browser page.
- Check the address bar before downloading, not after.

BK8 App for Sports & Esports Betting
The app carries three separate betting platforms, which is unusual and worth knowing about, because they price differently and cover different leagues.
BK8's own sportsbook in the app. Twenty-two live events when we looked, with Asian Handicap, Over/Under, and 1X2 grouped on one screen and a +142 market count on the Argentina fixture.
BK8 Sports is the default. The layout puts Asian Handicap, Over/Under, and 1X2 side by side rather than making you tab between them, which suits how most bettors in this market actually stake. Individual fixtures carried market counts over 140 when we checked.
The Saba Sports platform, reachable from inside the BK8 app. Corners and bookings get their own market blocks, and the parlay and bet builder tabs sit across the top.
Saba Sports is a separate Asian sportsbook integrated into BK8. Its market structure is different: corners and bookings are broken out into their own blocks rather than buried in a submenu, and there's a Bet Builder tab alongside Matches and Parlay. If you bet corners or cards, this is the platform to use.
A third sportsbook option in the app, with Single Bet, Mix Parlay and Outright tabs. eSoccer leagues running 6, 8 and 12-minute matches sit alongside the real fixtures.

Having three sportsbooks in one app is an advantage if you line-shop, since the same fixture can be priced differently across them. It also makes the app busier than a single-platform competitor, and new users should expect to spend a session working out which one they prefer.

Live Streaming: What the App Does and Doesn't Do
BK8's own sportsbook does not carry live streaming. The Saba Sports platform does, and it's reachable from inside the app, so the feature is available to you either way. It's just not where you'd expect to find it.
Saba covers football, tennis, and badminton streaming among others, and the platform also carries per-match statistics that BK8's own book doesn't surface as prominently.
Saba Sports is also downloadable as a standalone app from BK8's download page, which is the route to take if streaming is your main reason for using it.
One correction to how this is often described. Streaming on Saba is a benefit of holding a funded account rather than a free service, and access to a given match typically depends on your balance or an active bet on it. Guides describing it as free sport are overselling it. It's a reason to use the platform if you already have an account, not a substitute for a subscription.

- Testing ran on a Samsung Galaxy S24 and an iPhone 15, on app version v5.3.0. We can't speak to older hardware, though the Android 6.0 floor suggests broad compatibility.
- We haven't been through a full update cycle in the app. The updater exists and declares the permission it needs, but no version shipped while we were testing.
- The iOS listing name is a point-in-time finding. It was "Cookbyte" when we checked, and it has changed before. We re-verify each time we update this page.
